Not enough volume in the long runs

Skipping the medium-long runs
Midweek 18-25km runs at marathon pace are what set advanced programs apart. They train your body to hold race pace in a fatigued state — something the weekend long run alone doesn't replicate.
Starting too fast after months of preparation
The more prepared you are, the easier race pace feels over the first 10km. That feeling is dangerous. A sub-3h30 runner who opens at 4:45/km for the first 5km almost certainly won't break the barrier.
