5K in 8 Weeks – Advanced
Magic Training
About the plan
An 8-week plan for advanced runners who want to lower their 5K time while training four days a week. All of the catalog's advanced eight-week 5K plans asked for five to seven days; this one is for people who have four. Monday alternates short 400 m repeats, which work on mechanics at a hard pace, with 800 m to 1000 m intervals for oxygen uptake. Thursday is threshold, which supports race pace, and Sunday brings a 6 to 8 mile (10 to 13 km) long run that holds the aerobic base. Weekly volume stays between 20 and 25 miles (32 and 41 km). Week 4 is a recovery week, week 7 sharpens, and week 8 ends at the 5K. Paces come from your times in the Magic Calculator; update your reference time in your profile before starting so threshold, interval and race paces are calibrated.
